It has taken me years to build and perfect my wardrobe. Actually, as far as the perfecting it part I am still not quite there. I am sure you all know the saying “if only I knew then what I know now”. I know a bit odd to reference a saying that can have such deep meaning for a fashion post, but it’s very true. Had I known when I started building my wardrobe years ago I like to think that some “mistakes” I now look back on and cringe would have never happened. If you have an arsenal of well fitting essentials you truly are ready to “dress to impress” for any occasion. With a little mixing and matching as well as some layering you can have the perfect outfit with utilizing just the basics. Yes, these essentials will vary with anybody that you ask, for me they are the following…
The Blazer – A well tailored blazer is an absolute MUST HAVE for any age. I love the blazers at Express (great quality, impeccable fit and not to mention a steal in the price department as far as blazers are concerned).
The Tweed Jacket – Who doesn’t love a little Chanel or Jackie O inspiration? The tweed jacket is a timeless piece that you will reach for time and time again. Mixing with a trendier more updated piece like a pair of leopard pumps or striped tee is the perfect way to add a unique touch that will set you apart from the crowd.
The Button Up – Comfortable, chic and oh so versatile. I can not begin to count how many button ups I have in my closet.
The White Shirt – From a blouse to a basic tee this essential of mine goes with absolutely anything that you may have in your closet! BCBG Maxazria has my favorite basic tees, a little pricier than most but the quality is amazing not to mention the drapery, oh and they LAST!
The Skinny Jean (or a good fitting pair of denim) – You do not have to rock the skinny denim, this just happens to be my favorite fit and style. It is more about a cut and fit that you feel confident in and compliments your body type.
The Basic Dress – Most woman would say the little black dress is a must have. I like the unexpectedness of the little white dress. Jewelry and shoes can instantly change the look from day to night.
The Neutral Heel – The “white tee” of shoes.
The Flat – Ballet, oxfords or tennis shoes. A pair of flats let you run around town and be comfortable while still looking like a million bucks.
The Statement Necklace – Details are everything! Noble House Designs creates some of my favorite necklaces out there.
Now that I have listed my essential wardrobe pieces I want to take a moment to mention two other essentials of mine.
This is my husband and daughter and what I hands down would call my “life essentials”. Without my husband this blog and longtime dream of mine would not have been possible. He is my best friend and has been so incredibly supportive of me every step of the way, he was my confidence when I doubted that I could make “Cara’s Cliche” a reality. He is the “man behind the camera” and shoots all the amazing pictures on my blog. To say he has talent would not be giving him the credit he deserves. My daughter, she is the other half of my heart and such a huge inspiration to me. “While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.” -Angela Schwindt
