From the age of four, outside of school, every minute of my time was dedicated to fast pitch softball. My Christmas lists as a girl consisted of baseball bats, Nokona gloves and high top cleats with a pitching guard. Please, please, don’t say it, “you don’t look like a softball player”. I never quite understood that statement, what were we supposed to look like? I started off as a second baseman and was always in a bit of awe watching the pitchers do their thing. The assistant coach of my team told me I could never be a pitcher and I should stick to second base. Well anyone that knows me knows you never tell me I can not do something, I will make it my goal to prove you wrong. Which is exactly what I did, within a year of starting my new position I was being picked up by older teams to play in tournaments on weekends I had off. My mom was the head coach until about 12 years old, we used to blare John Fogerty “Centerfield” during warm-ups as our pre-game ritual. Those were some of my favorite moments with her growing up. Anyways, I diverse and I apologize for that but softball was my life for so long and such an amazing part of it. As crazy as it sounds there was something about the leftover water cups and lineup folded into the fence that brought me right back home, right back to my roots. All the hours of training, weight rooms, exhaustion and travel were all so worth it for the memories I have now. Red, white, blue and a baseball field, all that’s missing is a hot dog smothered in relish and a piping hot apple pie to make the scene full on “All American”. Usually sequins are associated with a night out but there is a way to work them into everyday. Jeans and a button still let them stand out the way they were made to but help tone them down for a day around town.
P.S. Yes I know heels at the diamond, but these are like sneakers elevated, so incredibly comfortable!
